The Nigerian Degree Classification Scale

Here is how the standard scale breaks down:

Second Class Upper (2:1) - CGPA of 3.50 to 4.49. Often considered the "target" classification for most ambitious students, a 2:1 is well-regarded by employers and satisfies the entry requirements for most postgraduate programmes both in Nigeria and abroad.

Second Class Lower (2:2) - CGPA of 2.40 to 3.49. A solid result that qualifies graduates for many professional roles, though some highly competitive programmes and employers set their minimum at 2:1.

Third Class - CGPA of 1.50 to 2.39. While less competitive, a Third Class still represents a completed degree and qualifies the holder for further study in many contexts.

Pass - CGPA of 1.00 to 1.49. The minimum classification for degree award.
