A photo mosaic is one of those visual effects that never fails to impress. From a distance, you see a single coherent image - a face, a landscape, a logo. How Photo Mosaics Are Built

The concept behind a photo mosaic is deceptively simple. Take a target image and divide it into a grid of small cells. For each cell, analyze the average color and brightness. Then replace that cell with a tile image whose overall color closely matches. When thousands of these replacements happen simultaneously, the human eye blends the tiles at a distance and perceives the original image, while up close you see the individual photographs.

The challenge lies in tile selection. The more diverse your tile library - in terms of color distribution, brightness, and hue - the more accurate the final mosaic. A library of 500 vacation photos with lots of blue sky and green foliage will produce great results for landscape targets but struggle with portraits that need warm skin tones and dark shadows.
