Tips for Accurate Measurement

Measure at floor level. Walls are not always perfectly straight or plumb. Measuring at the floor gives you the actual usable space where furniture and materials will sit.

Measure the longest and widest points for irregular rooms, then subtract any alcoves or cutouts as separate rectangles. This gives a more accurate net area than trying to estimate a complex shape as a single measurement.

Use a laser distance measurer for the most accurate results. They are inexpensive, fast, and eliminate the sag and error that come with long tape measures in big rooms.
